What is the connection between Paul being from the tribe of Benjamin and Genesis 49:27?

The connection is prophetic typology: Jacob's deathbed prophecy in Genesis 49:27 describes Benjamin as a ravenous wolf, devouring prey in the morning and dividing spoil at night. This vicious image is linked to Saul of Tarsus/Paul, who emphasized his Benjaminite tribe, suggesting his early life matched that picture.

Les explains that Jacob, on his deathbed, made prophetic utterances about all twelve sons, and Benjamin is the one he examines in Genesis 49:27. The prophecy says Benjamin shall raven as a wolf; in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoils. Les calls that a vicious picture. He then brings Saul of Tarsus and Paul into the picture, noting Paul's emphasis that he too was from the tribe of Benjamin. Les also keeps in view the two aspects of baby Benjamin: the son of sorrow (Ben-Oni) and the son of strength. He suggests this is why Paul refers to his Benjaminite tribe, and he asks what Saul of Tarsus was in his early life.

Genesis 49:27

Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.
