Why does the one who does the truth come to the light?
The one who does the truth, or believes the truth, comes to the light so that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. He comes because God has worked in him, revealing that his deeds are done in God, not by human effort alone.
Les explains that the one who does the truth—or believes the truth—comes to the light so that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. By contrast, everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to it, lest his deeds be reproved. Les says this is proof positive that man in his own desire will never seek God; God is the seeker. Believers should not give themselves credit for finding salvation—God found them and brought them to the place where they believe, as He opened Lydia's heart, not Paul's doing. Peter's confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, illustrates this.
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
