What happened at Kadesh Barnea and how did God still preserve Israel?

At Kadesh Barnea, Israel could have entered the land of promise, but in unbelief they turned back into the wilderness. God still preserved Israel because He always left a remnant of true believers, a seed, sparing the nation from being destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah.

Les explains that even though Israel was constantly turning back in unbelief, beginning especially at Kadesh Barnea, when they could have gone in and had the land of promise, in unbelief they turned around and went back into the wilderness. Yet there has always been that remnant of true believers. Paul makes reference to Isaiah: except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom and made like unto Gomorrah. Had it not been for the remnant every time, God would have had to destroy the nation of Israel like Sodom. In the same way at the end of the age, there will be that remnant of Israel that will cause God to spare the nation.
