Did God's hardening of Pharaoh mean Pharaoh had no choice?

No. God's hardening of Pharaoh did not remove Pharaoh's choice. When God placed him on the spot, Pharaoh bristled and refused to let Israel go, thereby hardening his own heart. He rejected God's offer of his own volition, so he could not rightly blame God for what he became.

Les explains that when Scripture says God hardened Pharaoh, it was not that Pharaoh had no choice. When God put him on the spot, Pharaoh bristled up and said he would not let the people go, so he hardened really his own heart. Paul then raises the objection, why does God find fault, for who has resisted His will? Les points out that God is sovereign, and the thing formed has no right to reply against the One who formed it. Pharaoh could not turn around and say, Why did you make me what I am? because he of his own volition rejected God's offer of taking Israel out of Egypt.
