When were believers chosen by God?

Believers were chosen by God from before the foundation of the world. This truth is confirmed by looking back at one's past experience, and it applies to those who are now believers. For the lost, the invitation remains whosoever will may come.

Les explains that for believers, this is not a problem because they can look back at their past experience and see that they were chosen from before the foundation of the world. He contrasts this with the lost person, who is still on the other side of the door and is looking at 'whosoever will may come.' Les also shares an account of William R. Newell, who encountered a man in Michigan during his ministry. That man claimed that if he was elect he had nothing to worry about, and if not, nothing could be done. Newell told him to wake up, that he did not have to worry about being elected; what he had to worry about was what he would do with the gospel—whether he would believe it and be one of the elect, or reject it and go to his doom. Les then moves on to discuss the sovereignty of God in Romans 9, noting that God can do whatever He wants, but being righteous and holy, He will never do anything unfair or unrighteous.
