Can an unbeliever comprehend the doctrine of election?
The doctrine of election cannot be comprehended by an unbeliever. It is a truth that only the believer can take by faith, as God chose believers in eternity past. The unbeliever must instead understand that whosoever will may come, and that God is not willing that any should perish.
Les teaches that the doctrine of election, the calling of believers since eternity past, should be studied only by the believer. As a believer, God wants us to know that in our exalted position, we didn't come in by accident; we came into this position because in eternity past, God chose us. This is something only the believer can take by faith: God said it, and we cannot argue with it. But for the unbeliever, he cannot comprehend this, and Les does not expect him to, because it is not for the unbeliever to try and swallow. Instead, the unbeliever has to understand that whosoever will may come, that God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance, and that Christ died for every man.
