Why is the book of Romans important for understanding grace?
Romans is foundational for understanding grace because it is so basic to the doctrines of grace. It also shows how God deals with Israel and where Israel stands in His program, as Paul explains in its middle chapters. This makes Romans central for grasping God's grace and Israel's place in His program.
Les explains that Romans is basic not only to the doctrines of grace but also to Paul's teaching in the middle three chapters about God dealing with Israel and where Israel stands in His program even today. He notes he heard of a pastor in Pennsylvania who taught from Romans every Sunday morning at 11 o'clock for 25 years. Les says he won't take quite that long, but it will be a while, underscoring how foundational Romans is for understanding grace.
