How old was Abraham when he had a child by Hagar?

Abraham was 86 years old when Hagar bore him a son, Ishmael. This occurred after he and Sarah grew impatient waiting for God's promised son, and Sarah suggested he have a child by their slave girl Hagar. Ishmael was born of the flesh, not the son of promise.

Les explains that Abraham was 86 when Ishmael was born through Hagar. Earlier, God had promised Abraham a nation from his own body when he was only 50. Then 25 years passed before he left Haran at 75. After another 14 years, at 86, they took matters into their own hands, and Sarah suggested Hagar. God did not provide the promised son until Abraham was 100, a 50-year wait. Ishmael was after the flesh; Isaac was the son of promise.
