Les Feldick Bible Study

What is all of creation, including believers, looking forward to?

All creation—rocks, rivers, trees, birds, fish, animals, and believers—anticipates the day when the curse will be lifted. The whole creation groans and travails in pain until now. Believers who have the firstfruits of the Spirit anxiously look forward to the Lord's coming, while unbelievers shrink from it.

Les explains that everything in creation—the rocks, rivers, trees, birds, fish, and animals—along with believers, is looking forward to the day when the curse will be lifted. He notes that creation groans and travails in pain, under constant duress, searching for food and trying to protect itself, which is what we call ecology, but that is not the way God intended it. Believers who have the firstfruits of the Spirit are the only ones who can anxiously look forward to the Lord's coming; the unbeliever shrinks from it, not ready, wishing it away, but he will not succeed because He is coming. Les says the whole world is moving faster and faster to that final moment when Christ will intervene once again in human history and set things straight.

Romans 8:22
