Les Feldick Bible Study

According to Ephesians 2:1, what is the condition of the whole human race?

The whole human race stands dead in trespasses and sins. As God sees it, every person is in that condition, and even believers were once dead in trespasses and sins before being made alive. Paul repeatedly emphasizes this same truth in Ephesians 2.

Les teaches that Ephesians chapter 2 verse 1 says, "And you hath he made alive, who were dead." He explains that this is where the whole human race is, so far as God is concerned: dead in trespasses and sins. That includes believers, because they too were once dead in trespasses and sins. In verse 2, Paul says they walked in times past according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience. Les says we were part and parcel of that. Before believing, a person is no different from everybody else; after believing, they should be different. He illustrates with a man who once would not have dreamed of going to a Bible study but now would rather be studying the Word than out in the crowd. Paul keeps bringing up this death condition, as verse 5 says, "even when we were dead."
