Why are we sealed by the Holy Spirit?
Believers are sealed by the Holy Spirit because there is no condemnation on them, and that sealing also confirms no condemnation. The Holy Spirit is God's mark of ownership, given after hearing the Word of Truth, the Gospel, and believing, with faith plus nothing.
Les teaches from Ephesians 1:13 that after a person hears the Word of Truth—the Gospel, the Good News of salvation—and believes, that one is sealed. He stresses the sequence and that salvation is faith plus nothing; the other things people attach to salvation are not in this passage. Les then asks why we are sealed: because there is no condemnation on us, and why is there no condemnation? Because we are sealed—it goes both ways. The sealing is being branded with God's mark of ownership, sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
