Who is an enemy of God?

The unbeliever is an enemy of God. Scripture indicates that without faith it is impossible to please God, and those in the flesh cannot please Him. Therefore, one who lacks faith stands as an enemy of God, not having the faith that pleases Him.

Les explains that the unbeliever is an enemy of God simply because he does not have faith. He connects this to Romans 8:8, where those in the flesh cannot please God, and to Hebrews 11:6, which he calls an absolute of Scripture: without faith it is impossible to please God. He notes that mankind totally rejects God's clear and precise laws, illustrated by the failure of prohibition, because human nature still wants what is forbidden. So the lost, outside of being positionally in Christ, cannot please God and remain enemies through unbelief.
