How old was Abraham when God first promised him that a nation would come from his own body and Sarah?
Abraham was 50 years old when God first promised that a nation of people would come from his own body and through his wife Sarai. This occurred 25 years before he left Haran for Canaan. The promise was later fulfilled when he was 100.
Les explains that when God first promised Abraham (then Abram) that a nation would come from his own body and through his wife Sarai, he was only 50 years old. Les notes that 25 years passed before Abraham even left Haran for Canaan, making him 75. Another 14 years went by before Sarah suggested Hagar, and Ishmael was born when Abraham was 86. God's promised son came when Abraham was 100, a 50-year wait. Les emphasizes that Ishmael was after the flesh, but Isaac was the son of promise.
