Why did Paul write the letter to the Galatians?

Paul wrote to the Galatians to refute Judaizers who insisted Gentile believers had to embrace Judaism, practice circumcision, and keep the Law for salvation. He wrote to correct them, affirming that salvation is by faith in the Gospel alone and that believers are not under Law but under Grace.

Les explains that Galatians was written to Gentile believers who were being besieged by Judaizers. These false teachers claimed that faith in the Gospel alone was insufficient; they required Gentile converts to embrace Judaism, practice circumcision, and keep the Law. Paul therefore wrote this little letter to refute those claims and straighten them out. The theme of the book is that you are not under Law, you are under Grace. In Galatians 3:13, Paul declares that Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us, so that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ.
