Why is Jesus called the Christ of redemption?

Jesus is called the Christ of redemption because when Adam and Eve fell and plunged creation under the curse, God immediately promised a Redeemer. That promise is recorded in Genesis 3:15, identifying Him as the One who would redeem fallen humanity and creation.

Les explains that Jesus is called the Christ of redemption because of what happened in Genesis 3. Adam and Eve had just eaten the forbidden fruit; they had fallen and sinned against God, which God knew they would do. Immediately, God promised a Redeemer, and Les points to Genesis 3:15 as that promise. He notes that this redemption is not limited to humanity but extends to creation itself, referring to a prior program where he taught on the redemption of creation in Romans chapter 8. Thus, the title reflects God's immediate provision of a Redeemer after the curse.

Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Who is called the Christ of redemption?

Les explains that the Christ of redemption is the one Paul refers to as having come out of all the things Israel enjoyed, including the covenants given to the patriarchs, but the promise goes back even further to Genesis chapter 3. Immediately after Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit and fell, God promised a Redeemer in Genesis 3:15. Les also notes that this redemption of creation was the subject of Romans chapter 8, which he had taught a few weeks earlier, and a listener from Indiana wrote to say how that teaching blessed her.
