Who are the fathers in Romans 9:4?
The fathers in Romans 9:4 are the great men of Israel's history. They are the ones to whom the little nation of Israel belongs, the revered forefathers of the Jewish people. Their legacy leads up to the coming of the Messiah, the Christ.
Les teaches that in Romans 9:4, the fathers are the great men of Israel's history, and the little nation of Israel belongs to them. This is the seventh item in the list, and the eighth goes beyond the finished part, pointing to the coming of the Messiah, the Christ. Verse 5 declares that Christ came concerning the flesh and is overall blessed of God forever. Les stresses that Christ is the all in all, and we must never reduce Him to just another prophet or name among the gods, as the New Age people do. He directs us to Colossians 1:15 to see Christ as the eternal creator God of the universe.
