What does Isaiah 66:22 teach about the permanence of Israel?

Isaiah 66:22 teaches that Israel’s seed and name will remain before the Lord forever, just as the new heavens and new earth will remain. Israel will never pass off the scene, and even in the eternal state it retains a unique position as God’s covenant people.

Les explains that Isaiah 66:22 points to the same event as Revelation 21 and 22—the new heavens and new earth God will make for all eternity. Even though the present creation will be destroyed, God’s promise is that Israel’s seed and name shall remain before Him. Les emphasizes that Israel is never going to pass off the scene, even after the millennial reign and the total destruction of the universe. In the new creation, Israel is still the apple of God’s eye and holds that unique position. Les notes that believers in the body of Christ are in an even better position than Israel, but we must constantly refer to Israel’s position because the world, under satanic pressures, tries to put Israel out of the picture. It will not happen; God will never lose sight of His covenant people.

Isaiah 66:22

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
