What does it mean that Israel is God's chosen people?

The nation of Israel was chosen by the Lord to be a special people unto Himself, above all people on the face of the earth. This choosing was a positional adoption: Israel was set apart as a unique nation, a status no other people enjoy and no one can infringe upon or invade. Moses declared them holy unto God.

Les explains that Romans 9:4 speaks of kinsmen according to the flesh, the Israelites, to whom pertaineth the adoption. Les teaches that adoption here is positional: it means to be placed as a full son, so Israel has been positioned as a unique, set-aside nation. No one can infringe on or invade that position that only the nation of Israel enjoys. Then in Deuteronomy 7:6, Moses writes to the Jew, the nation of Israel, saying they are a holy people unto the Lord, and the Lord God hath chosen them to be a special people unto Himself, above all people upon the face of the earth. Les says this is plain language: Israel is God’s chosen, special, set-apart people.
