What are the basic promises of the Abrahamic covenant?
The Abrahamic covenant centers on three basic promises: God would make of Abraham a great nation, place that nation in a specific geographical area of land, and one day come personally to be its king and government. Through this nation, God would carry out His redemptive plan for the whole human race.
Les explains that in Genesis 12 God does something totally different by picking one man, Abraham, out of the one race of Adam. Abraham was originally a Syrian from Ur of the Chaldeans, though he became the father of the Jewish people. God promised Abraham that out of him He would bring about a nation totally different from any other race on earth. That nation would be the vehicle through which God would communicate and bring about the whole plan of redemption to the whole human race through Israel. The covenant promises are basically that God would make of Abraham a great nation, put him in a geographical area of land, and one day come and be their king and government.
