How are Romans 9 through 11 positioned in the book of Romans?
Romans 9 through 11 are parenthetical chapters positioned right in the middle of the book of Romans. Paul suddenly digresses there to deal with the Jew: chapter 9 covers Israel's past, chapter 10 Israel's present, and chapter 11 Israel's future, after which the letter resumes where Romans 8 left off and moves into chapter 12.
Les explains that Romans 9, 10, and 11 are parenthetical chapters sitting right in the middle of the book of Romans. In them Paul suddenly digresses to deal with the Jew. Chapter 9 deals with Israel's past; chapter 10 deals with God's dealing with Israel today, in the present; and chapter 11 deals with Israel's future. Then the study goes right back to where it left off with Romans 8 and proceeds into chapter 12. He also notes that seeming contradictions often arise because God deals with Israel in one instance and with the church age in another, and there are vast differences in that.
