Who determines who I am and what I am in the spiritual realm?
The triune God—Creator and Sustainer—determines who you are and what you are in the realm of the Spirit. He justifies, chooses, forgives, and takes His elect unto Himself, so no one can lay a charge against them or condemn them.
Les explains that the word 'elect' means chosen. When you elect someone, you designate them to be whatever you intend them to be; election is an act of choosing, and that is what God has done with every one of His own. No one comes to God of his own prerogative, though there is also the 'whosoever will' aspect. Les emphasizes that it is God who justifies—not our neighbor, boss, husband, or wife—so we do not have to give an account to any of them. The triune God, the Creator and Sustaining God, is the one who determines who we are and what we are in the realm of the Spirit. Since He has chosen, forgiven, and taken us unto Himself, no one can condemn us; it is Christ who died and rose again, and everything revolves around that finished work of the cross.
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
