Why does God want us to verbalize our confession?

God expects believers to communicate their confession not only to Himself but also to others, because He is a communicator and looks for verbalization rather than mere mental assent. Scripture ties salvation to confessing with the mouth, so saying aloud that one is a sinner and trusting God makes the inward reality outward and testifies before others.

Les teaches from Romans 10:9-13 that God expects you to communicate this confession not only to Himself but also to others. He explains that God is a communicator and expects us to verbalize these things. Too many people have only had a mental ascent, saying, “Well, yeah, I believe in God,” but that is not what God is looking for. God is looking for a verbalization of all these various steps, such as telling God out loud, “Lord, I’m a sinner,” recognizing from Scripture that you are a sinner. This fits the broader context where sin abounded but grace did much more abound, and God is able to reach below the vilest sinner, lift him up, and make him a saint. Paul refers to his Gospel as the Gospel of the Grace of God.

Romans 10:9

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
