In which chapter of Romans does Paul finally talk about the power of the Holy Spirit?
Paul finally addresses the power of the Holy Spirit in Romans chapter 8. Through the first seven chapters he has not yet mentioned the Spirit's power, but that theme breaks out in chapter 8. It is there that the Holy Spirit's power in Paul's letter explodes onto the scene, moving beyond the struggle described earlier.
Les explains that Romans 7 pictures the believer's inward conflict: Christ, in the person of the Holy Spirit, dwells within the inward man and can give victory over the adversary, first and foremost old Adam. But Paul has not mentioned the Holy Spirit's power in the first seven chapters. Les says that theme will break out in chapter 8 and will explode there. Romans 7 closes with the wretched man asking who shall deliver him from the body of this death, the influence of old Adam.
