How did Paul compel Christians to blaspheme?

Paul compelled believers by punishing them often in every synagogue, threatening torture or harm, and forcing them to renounce their faith in Jesus—essentially to blaspheme. He voted against them, sought their death, and pursued them even to strange cities and Damascus to drag them back for trial.

Les explains that Paul, then Saul, admitted he punished them often in every synagogue and compelled them to blaspheme. Les says he was forcing Jewish believers, likely by threat of torture or whatever, to renounce their faith in Jesus. Paul voted to have them put to death. Being exceedingly mad against them, he persecuted them even unto strange cities, and went to Damascus to drag Jewish believers bound back to Jerusalem for trial before the Sanhedrin and Pharisees.

Acts 26:11

And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.
