What happens to someone who is a child of Adam in Romans 6?

Paul teaches that a child of Adam serves the old Adam, is under his control, and by serving him brings about spiritual death. Such a person gives obedience to Adam rather than to God, resulting in death instead of righteousness and right standing with God.

Les explains that you are a servant to the one you obey. If you are a child of Adam, you serve old Adam and remain under his control, and that path produces spiritual death. The other side of the coin is obedience to God's invitation of grace, which brings righteousness and right standing with God now and for eternity. He stresses this is either/or, the only choice in life. He also notes no works, church memberships, baptisms, sacraments, or human endeavors can put old Adam to death; only the Creator God can do that.
