What does 'alive from the dead' mean in Romans 6:13?

Being 'alive from the dead' means the believer has been raised out of the deadness of the old Adamic nature and is now alive unto God. It describes spiritual resurrection from old Adam's dominion, enabling believers to yield themselves to God as instruments of righteousness.

Les teaches that 'alive from the dead' refers to believers being raised from the deadness in the old Adam and now being alive unto God. He explains that this is why Paul says to yield yourselves unto God as those who are alive from the dead, because that is what we are. He then connects this to yielding your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. In the following verses, Les focuses on Romans 6:14-15, where sin—singular, old Adam—shall not have dominion. He defines dominion as ruling like a king, and says Paul admonishes us not to let old Adam have dominion over us. Les notes the seemingly anticlimactic reason: don't let old Adam have dominion because you are not under law but under grace. He points out that this is the opposite of what one might expect. He explains that we have full freedom, not under any demands of a set of rules and regulations.

Romans 6:13

Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
