What happened to believers when Christ died, was buried, and rose?

When Christ died, believers died; when He was buried, they were buried; and when He arose from the grave, they arose in newness of life. This is the Holy Spirit's baptism into the body of Christ, an engulfing into His death, burial, and resurrection—not a water baptism into a denomination.

Les teaches from Romans 6:3-4 that believers were baptized by the Holy Spirit into Jesus Christ, engulfed or inundated by His death. Because Christ really died and was buried three days and three nights, old Adam had to die, and believers are seen by God as buried with Him. As Christ arose from the tomb, believers arose in newness of life; they do not stay there any more than Christ did. This work goes far beyond what water baptism can do.

Romans 6:3

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Romans 6:4

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
