What must we realize when we see that the old sin nature is exposed and that we are all sinners?
When the old sin nature is shown for what it is and God says all are sinners, we must stop and realize that under like circumstances, we would probably be prone to do the same things. Every person shares that same capacity.
Les explains that where old Adam or the old nature abounded, grace did much more abound. He reflects on human history and the present day, asking how armed forces can commit horrendous atrocities against their enemy. He describes young men from one area of the world, like Yugoslavia or Bosnia, losing all sense of morality while fighting, so that any female becomes free game for their animal appetites, and no one seemingly takes that away; a general of a bygone time called it one of the privileges of being a foot soldier. Les asks where such thinking comes from and why these young men suddenly lose what they must have learned at their mama's knee. The answer is the old sin nature. Every one of us, as shown in Romans chapter one and two, is capable of those same things. So when the old sin nature is shown for what it really is, and God says we are all sinners, we have to stop and realize that under like circumstances we would probably be prone to do the same thing.
