Did Paul write his letters out of his own learning or as moved by the Holy Spirit?

Paul wrote as he was moved by the Holy Spirit, not merely out of his own learning or meditation. While Paul’s personality shows through in his writings, as with all Scripture authors, he did not simply rehearse something he sat down, learned, and decided to write.

Les explains that when he refers to Paul as the writer, it should be understood that Paul wrote as he was moved by the Holy Spirit. Paul’s personality certainly shows through in all his writings, even as all the authors of Scripture do. But Paul was not simply rehearsing something he sat down and learned and meditated on, saying, “This is what I’m going to write.” No, he wrote as he was moved by the Holy Spirit.
