What defines a gift?

A gift is something undeserved, unearned, and unmerited, given by someone out of the goodness of their heart. Salvation is such a gift, given by God's grace through one man, Jesus Christ, and it cannot be obtained by human works or merit.

Les explains that a gift, by its very nature, is not something you deserve, work for, or merit. It is something someone does for you out of the goodness of their heart. He stresses that if you think you must do something for your salvation, it will not fit, because salvation is a gift, and God will not stand for people trying to work for it. Paul writes of the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, and it hath abounded unto many. Les notes that Scripture alternates calling Christ God and the man, not taking away from His deity, but affirming His virgin birth as the God-man.
