How does the plan of salvation relate to God's eternal purpose?

The plan of salvation is part of God's eternal purpose, set before creation when the triune God agreed on creation and mankind, knowing humanity would sin. It operates not by human works but according to His own purpose, through the Son coming down, dying, and being raised from the dead.

Les explains that in Paul's words to Timothy, though written to Timothy, the statement applies to every believer. God has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose. Les points back to Acts, where Peter makes it evident that before anything was created, the triune God had a meeting in eternity past. Not that they had to sit around a table and debate, but the Trinity agreed on creation, on mankind, knowing that mankind would sin. They set up the plan of salvation, out of which the Son would come down, die, and be raised from the dead. Les concludes that this is all part of the eternal purpose God implemented before anything was ever created.
