Did God take on human form when He appeared to Abraham in Genesis 15?

Genesis 15 is presented as a time when God came down and took on human form to deal with Abraham face-to-face. This supports the idea that God appeared in human form in that encounter. The same pattern is noted at Abraham’s calling from Ur and is evident again in Genesis 18.

Les teaches that Genesis 15 is where God does something totally different, giving Abraham a promise that ties him to us. Les explains that the Lord dealt with Abraham on a face-to-face, eyeball-to-eyeball basis, and he suggests this is where God came down and took on human form. Les notes God also did so at the calling out of Ur, because Acts 7 uses the Greek word optomai, dealing with sight, and Stephen rehearsed that the Lord appeared to Abram; the word also appeared back in the Hebrew. Les is sure God dealt with Abraham face-to-face more than once, and it is evident in Genesis 18.

Genesis 15:5

And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
