What is the foundation of our salvation and Christian life?

Scripture teaches that Jesus Christ is the foundation of both our salvation experience and our Christian life. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians chapter 3 that no other foundation can any man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Every believer is to take heed how he builds upon that foundation.

Les explains from 1 Corinthians chapter 3 that Paul is dealing with the works side of the Christian experience, not the salvation end. Paul says believers are laborers together with God, God's husbandry and building. By God's grace Paul laid the foundation as a wise master builder, and every believer must take heed how he builds upon it. No other foundation can be laid than Jesus Christ, who is the foundation of our salvation experience and our Christian life. Earlier Scripture also shows believers are created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God before ordained that we should walk in them.

1 Corinthians 3:11

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Paul's building analogy means that unless our faith rests on the foundation he laid—Christ crucified, buried, and risen from the dead—we are hopelessly lost.

What is the foundation believers build their works upon in 1 Corinthians 3?

The foundation that every believer builds upon is Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, as stated earlier in verse 11.
