Why is being forgiven at the moment you sin not a license to sin?
Forgiveness at the moment of sin is not a license because it is God’s grace, not permission to sin. God will never come back and accuse believers of still having sin on their ledger; it has been wiped clean. Instead, God’s righteousness has been imputed to their account.
Les teaches that if the Lord should come this very moment and we had done something wrong that forenoon without time to confess it, God would not say, “Wait a minute, you sinned and haven’t taken care of it.” No, we are forgiven the moment we sin. People object that this sounds like a license, but Les insists it is not licensed. It is simply the grace of God, which says God will never come back at us and accuse us of still having sin on our ledger. It has been wiped clean. Opposite that, the whole bankroll of heaven has been put to our account—God’s righteousness has been imputed to us.
