Why could Jesus say the work of the cross finished it?
Jesus could say the work of the cross finished it because He was everything the tabernacle pictured: the high priest, the sacrificial animal, the place of sacrifice, the laver, the showbread, the altar, the candlestick, the Ark, and the mercy seat. He was everything a holy God demanded of us and did it all on our behalf.
Les teaches that every material and furnishing of the tabernacle was a picture of Christ. The word propitiation indicates that He is not only the sacrifice but also the place of applying the sacrifice. He was the high priest, the sacrificial animal, the place of sacrifice, the laver of cleansing, the table of showbread, the altar of incense, the candlestick, the Ark of the Covenant, and the mercy seat. He was everything that could be thought of in that tabernacle day of atonement. Because He was everything a holy God demanded of us, and He did it all on our behalf, His work of the cross is spoken of as finished. He was the sacrificial blood, the high priest who presented it, and the very mercy seat where He presented His own blood.
