Les Feldick Bible Study

How does Les explain propitiation using the tabernacle?

Propitiation is pictured by Christ fulfilling every part of the tabernacle: He is the high priest, the sacrificial animal, the place of sacrifice, the laver, the showbread table, the incense altar, the candlestick, the Ark, and the mercy seat. The word means He is both the sacrifice and the place where that sacrifice is applied.

Les explains propitiation by using the whole tabernacle system as a picture of Christ's finished work of the cross. Every material and furnishing—outer fence, altar, laver of cleansing, table of showbread, altar of incense, candlestick, Ark of the Covenant, and mercy seat—was a picture of Christ. In the day of atonement, He was the high priest, the sacrificial animal, the place of sacrifice, and the mercy seat where He presented His own blood. Propitiation indicates He is not only the sacrifice but the place of applying the sacrifice. Because He was everything a holy God demanded of us, He did it all on our behalf.
