What happened to slaves in the Roman slave market who were not bought?

In the Roman slave market, slaves who were not bought out met the Colosseum as their end, being fed to the animals, specifically the lion. Once they entered the market, their only hope was to be purchased out of it.

Les explains that the Greek word agorazo means to buy out of the market, picturing a slave market in Paul's day in Rome. Slaves came in, perhaps from Europe after the Roman legions brought back victims. If they were not bought out of the slave market, the Colosseum was the end—fed to the animals, the lion. Their only hope once in the slave market was to be bought out. He parallels this to every human being in Satan's slave market; unless purchased out, their end is the same, only spiritual and eternal: death.
