What did the law coming alive do in Saul's life?

The law coming alive made Saul realize he was a sinner, and then the grace of God overwhelmed him. It caused his religiosity to fade, showing him he could do nothing to save himself, and he was transformed when confronted by Jesus.

Les explains that when the law came alive in Saul of Tarsus, he realized he was a sinner, and the grace of God overwhelmed him. This happened after Jesus confronted him on the road, asking, 'Why persecutest thou me?' Saul responded, 'Who art thou, Lord?' and Jesus answered, 'I am Jesus, whom thou persecutest.' In that moment, all his religiosity faded away. Les compares this to Israel at the Red Sea, where God told them to stand still because there was nothing they could do, and then opened the sea. That is salvation: realizing our hopelessness and receiving God's mercy.
