Les Feldick Bible Study

Was Paul writing Romans mainly to Gentile believers or to Jewish believers?

Paul wrote Romans predominantly to Gentile believers. The context states Paul always writes to believers who are predominantly Gentile, clarifying that Jews are certainly eligible for salvation and many were coming to know the Lord, but God was dealing predominantly with Gentiles. Thus the Roman church and believers today received Paul's letter in that Gentile-majority setting.

Les teaches that Paul always writes to believers who are predominantly Gentile, while making clear that Jews are certainly eligible for this salvation and many Jews were coming to know the Lord. He notes it is predominantly God dealing with the Gentile. Then, addressing the church at Rome as well as believers today, Paul writes Romans 3:20: "Therefore by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified. For by the law is the knowledge of sin." In verse 21, Les points out that even though the law could not bring someone into salvation, the flip side is that we do have something that does.
