Who was crucified with Christ in the teaching about the body of sin?

In this teaching, the old Adam—the body of sin—was crucified with Christ. By identification through faith, God saw the believer on the cross in the person of Christ, so the old Adam’s power was destroyed, meaning knocked out of commission, not annihilated. Henceforth, believers should not serve old Adam.

Les explains that this identification is by faith, not by feeling or experience. Christ died your death on the cross, and God saw you on the cross in the person of Christ. As He lay in the tomb, God saw you there, and when He rose victoriously, God saw you in resurrected life. Knowing this only because the Word says so, our old Adam is crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be destroyed. In the Greek, destroyed does not mean removed and annihilated; it means knocked out of commission, lost its power. Like pulling a main fuse, the lights go out but the power remains. The old Adam has lost his power, so henceforth we should not serve old Adam, because the unbeliever lives to satisfy the desires of old Adam.
