How can we appropriate everything God accomplished on the cross?

We appropriate everything God accomplished on the cross through faith and the shedding of blood. The two imperatives are: without faith it is impossible to please God, and without the shedding of blood there can be no remission. Both rule out good works.

Les explains that all people are on the same level playing ground as sons of Adam, and the only way to appropriate everything God accomplished on the cross is by the two imperatives he puts on the board. The first is that without faith it is impossible to please God; the second is that without the shedding of blood there can be no remission. Les teaches that both imperatives knock out the good works people, because they do not know what faith is, do not take God at His word, and shun the blood. The cross required that He shed His blood, and it had to be a death where that was evident; otherwise the Jews could have killed Him by stoning, but that would not have fulfilled the shedding of blood on the crucifixion.
