What is the whole theme of the book of Romans?

The whole theme of Romans is dealing with the old sin nature—the old Adam—that constantly makes man rebel against God's tenets. This sin nature must die, and it cannot be dealt with in the energy of the flesh or by joining a church.

Les teaches that the whole theme of Romans is to deal with the old sin nature, the old Adam, which constantly makes man rebel against the very tenets of God. He illustrates that Saul of Tarsus realized he was the biggest lawbreaker when the law confronted him, and he had to recognize that old Adam had to die. Les explains that this cannot be accomplished in the energy of the flesh, any more than a trained horse's true cantankerous nature could be hidden once an outside energy source exposed it. Joining a church is not the way to get right with God; the old Adam must be dealt with.
