Do Christians receive a physical certificate saying they are forgiven?
No. Forgiveness, redemption, justification, and imputed righteousness are intangible and invisible; believers have no plaque or decree from God. They know they are forgiven by faith in the promises of Scripture, which says it, and because the book says it, they know it has happened.
Les teaches that forgiveness is tied to redemption, justification, and imputed righteousness, and they all fit together to fulfill salvation. Yet none of these can be laid on a table, put under a microscope, or analyzed, because they are intangible and invisible. The only way to know they happened is by faith. Les says he has no great plaque on his wall from God saying he is forgiven, and no decree saying he is justified or redeemed; neither does anyone else. What believers have are the promises of the book, and because the book says it, they know it has happened. He illustrates this by warning a lady that doubts might come tomorrow, urging her to come back to the verses, claim them aloud, and tell God she believes what He promised.
