What is faith according to Hebrews 11:1?

Faith is the substance, the core, and the epitome of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. It concerns what cannot be touched or seen. It is the only way the invisible can be comprehended. By it, one takes God at His Word.

Les explains that faith is the substance, the very core, the epitome of things hoped for, and the substance of evidence for things not seen—things you cannot touch or see. He says there is only one way to comprehend it: by faith. By faith the Old Testament saints, the elders, obtained a good report. Through faith, by taking God at His Word and being settled on it, we understand that the worlds, the universe, were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. We are dealing with the invisible, and the only way to comprehend the invisible is by faith.
