What false teaching was perverting the Galatian churches?
A perverted gospel required believers to keep the Mosaic Law in addition to the grace of Christ. Paul identified it as another gospel that is not truly another, brought by troublemakers who wanted to pervert the true gospel and mislead the Galatian churches.
Les explains that the Galatian churches were being perverted by someone coming in and telling them they had to also keep the Mosaic Law. Paul marveled that they were so soon removed from Him who called them into the grace of Christ into another gospel, which is not another. Paul said some were troubling them and would pervert the gospel. Les defines perversion as anything that has twisted the truth far enough to be off-center and mislead people. Paul warned that even if an angel from heaven preached any other gospel, let him be accursed, which Les calls powerful language and says he shudders to think of the end of someone who perverts this gospel.
