Why was Paul not bothered by eating meat offered to pagan gods?
Paul was not bothered because those pagan gods had no power and could not affect the meat. If a person recognized that the idols were powerless, the meat sacrificed to them was not changed. But if someone thought the sacrificial meat had been tainted by the pagan god, then he should not eat it.
Les teaches that in Paul’s day, paganism and blatant idolatry were everywhere, with great temples and animal sacrifices. Many sheep and goats sacrificed in those pagan temples ended up in the marketplace, where people bought meat for meals. Paul was not bothered because the pagan gods had no power and could not affect the meat. However, if a person had any idea that the meat had been tainted by the sacrifice to a pagan god, then he should not eat it.
