What role did Jerusalem have for Judaism and Israel under the law?

Under the law, Jerusalem was the headquarters for Judaism and Israel. Everything concerning the Jew funneled into and out of Jerusalem. It was the center of God's earthly people, Israel, who were predominantly under law, in contrast to the church, whose headquarters is heaven under grace.

Les explains that under the law, Jerusalem was the headquarters for Judaism and Israel, and everything concerning the Jew funneled into and out of Jerusalem. He contrasts this with the church: there is no earthly headquarters for the church, whether Antioch, Rome, Jerusalem, or any other city. Instead, heaven is the headquarters of the church. He ties this to God's two areas of working: Israel as God's earthly people, predominantly under law, and the Body of Christ as God's heavenly people, under grace, with a chasm separating them so they cannot be mixed.
