In John 11, is the point how much we love Jesus or how much He loves us?

In John 11, the point is how much Jesus loves us, not how much we love Him. The account of Lazarus shows Mary and Martha's love is not the emphasis; His love for them is. Even the Jews at the tomb said, 'Look how He loved them.'

Les teaches that John chapter 11, the account of Lazarus, is not primarily about how much Mary and Martha loved Jesus; all through that chapter the emphasis is how much He loved them. When Jesus wept, the Jews in the area of Lazarus and Martha's home said, 'My, look how He loved them,' not how much they loved Him. Les says this is something believers must constantly remember: it is not how much we love Him, but how much He loved us, saved us, and kept us. With that in view, Paul says he does not frustrate the grace of God, because God's attitude is total love, mercy, and grace rather than waiting to zap frail humans.
