What Gospel was Philip preaching in Samaria?

Philip preached the Gospel of the Kingdom, the same message Jesus and the twelve had carried to Israel, not the Gospel of grace. Grace had not yet been revealed. His message emphasized that Jesus, whom they crucified, was indeed the Christ.

Les explains that about seven years after Pentecost, after Stephen was martyred, Philip—one of the seven appointed in Acts 6—went up to Samaria and preached the Gospel. This was not the Gospel of grace yet, because it had not yet been revealed. It was the Gospel of the Kingdom, which is distinct from the Gospel of grace. The Kingdom Gospel had been going to the nation of Israel through Jesus and the twelve, and Philip was continuing it. The evidence is that there is no mention of salvation by the finished work of the cross, no death, burial, and resurrection for salvation. Instead, they emphasized that the One they crucified was indeed the Christ. Simon made a pseudo-profession, a fake and counterfeit, but those who truly believed Philip's message that Jesus was the Christ later received the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands by Peter and John, showing that authority rested in Jerusalem and the twelve.
