What did Stephen's audience do when he said he saw Jesus standing at God's right hand?
When Stephen declared he saw the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at God’s right hand, his hearers cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, ran upon him with one accord, and began to stone him.
Les explains that Scripture normally presents Jesus seated at the right hand of the Majesty on high, as Hebrews 1 and Psalm 110 indicate. But here Stephen saw Him standing rather than sitting. Many people either do not see this or assume it is a mistranslation, but Les says it is not. At Stephen’s statement, the audience cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, ran upon him with one accord, and began to stone him. Les wants us to think about why Jesus was standing rather than sitting, pointing back to Acts 3:19-20 and the presentation to the nation after His resurrection and ascension: He is alive, God raised Him from the dead, He has been called back to heaven, and He is ready to return quickly and set up the Kingdom, though the tribulation had to run its course.
